In October, I felt a lump in my left breast. Because I suck at knowing my own body, I didn't know if it was a cyst, a mass, whether it had been there for years. Nothing. All I knew was, it hurt.
Wait and watch that it's not part of my cycle.
Sometime in early November I'm making the bed and I say outloud "I have cancer." Fairly melodramatic even for me, but, in hindsight, it was God speaking through me. I made an appointment for my first mammogram. I kept my mouth shut about the lump they were going to find.
On November 28th I went in for my first EVER mammogram.
By November 30th I was being called back for more views.
Minutes after my second ever mammogram, I was told to go across the hall for an ultrasound.
"We see something suspicious," said the radiology doctor, "and we want to do a biopsy."
Six days later, I was being biopsied. The same radiologist that did the ultrasound reacted very well as we both looked at the ultrasound screen at the large black mass and I blurted, "This doesn't look good, does it?"
"We are already scheduling a cancer team for you," she said.
From there I learned I was HER2 Positive. I would be having chemo, on top of surgery, radiation and hormone blocking therapy.
